We added fifty-three books to our shelves in July and August which brings our total to 276 for the year. Have you seen them all? Remember, this is only a partial list since there isn’t enough room in this newsletter to list them all.

The Mayflower landed in 1620 with 102 passengers, but are you familiar with the Mary & John which brought 140 passengers ten years later? You might want to look at the twenty-seven volumes named Search for the Passengers of the Mary & John, 1630 by Burton W. Spear, located at Dewey number 325/SPE. These books were written to recreate the lost passenger list and the descendants of the Mary & John.

If you have Connecticut ancestors, look at The Barbour Collection of Connecticut Town Vital Records by Lucius Barnes Barbour, located at Dewey number 974.6/BAR.

As early as 1640, magistrates in Connecticut were ordered to keep marriage records. In 1644, town clerks became responsible for keeping birth and marriage records, with death records added in 1650. These books are arranged alphabetically by town and within each town, surnames are listed alphabetically. Dates of coverage vary, but can be found as late as 1858.
